About '50th anniversery'|What is the most popular spongebob episode ever








The               Hope               Diamond               enters               the               historic               record               as               a               gemstone               almost               three               times               the               size               of               the               Hope               Diamond               on               view               at               the               Smithsonian               Institution's               National               Museum               of               Natural               History.

Called               the               Tavernier               Diamond,               this               112+               carat               deep               blue               gem               made               up               part               of               a               package               that               consisted               of               a               baker's-dozen               of               large               gems               purchased               in               1668               by               Louis               XIV,               King               of               France.
               Mysterious               Diamond
               The               mystery               starts               with               just               how               Jean               Baptist               Tavernier               acquired               the               diamond.

He               made               six               voyages               from               1640               to               1667               and               while               visiting               India               either               purchased               the               gemstone               from               the               Kollur               Mine               or               stole               it               from               the               eye               of               an               idol,               the               Goddess               Sita,               whose               temple               sat               along               the               Coleroon               River.

A               temple               priest               is               said               to               have               placed               a               curse               on               anyone               that               possessed               the               missing               gemstone.
               Tavernier               drew               sketches               of               this               pre-cursor               to               the               Hope               diamond               and               in               his               written               description               used               the               phrase,               "un               beau               violet"               (a               beautiful               violet)               to               describe               the               color               of               this               diamond               with               such               a               deep,               rich               hue.
               Somewhere               in               the               mid               1670's               it               was               Sieur               Pitau,               court               jeweler,               that               reduced               the               112               carat               Tavernier               Diamond               to               barely               more               than               half               its               size,               67+               carats,               to               create               the               gem               that               became               known               as               the               'French               Blue'.

The               first               piece               of               jewellery               this               historic               precious               stone               adorned               was               a               cravat               pin               for               the               King               of               France.
               Mystery               Solved
               The               jeweler               Andre               Jacquemin               created               a               new               piece               of               ceremonial               jewelry               in               1749               in               which               to               set               the               French               Blue               for               the               next               king,               Louis               XV.

This               deep               blue               diamond               became               the               focal               point               of               a               medal               for               the               'Order               of               the               Golden               Fleece'.

Slightly               more               than               40               years               later               the               French               Royal               Treasury               was               looted               and               the               'French               Blue'               diamond               disappeared               forever.
               Although               the               French               Blue               was               never               again               seen               it               has               been               determined               by               the               Smithsonian               Institute               in               2005,               using               techniques               of               modern               science               and               the               discovery               of               a               cast               of               the               original               French               Blue,               that               the               Hope               diamond               is               the               45.52               carat               remains               of               that               'lost'               diamond.
               Diamond               for               Sale
               This               newly               cut               gem               is               reputed               to               have               been               acquired               by               England's               King               George               IV               through               private               channels               and               then               sold               upon               his               death               to               clear               his               debts,               once               again               through               private               channels.
               This               diamond               now               made               its               way               into               the               collection               of               a               rich               banking               family               named               Hope.

It               has               carried               that               name               ever               since               even               though               its               most               flamboyant               and               memorable               owners               were               yet               to               come.
               By               way               of               inheritance,               sale               for               debt               and               other               means               it               came               into               the               possession               of               the               Sultan               of               Turkey,               Abdul               Hamid               II.

The               Sultan               gave               it               as               a               bauble               to               his               wife               Subaya,               who               was               wearing               it               at               a               Turkish               court               function               when               she               met               Mrs.

Evalyn               Walsh               McLean,               rich               socialite               with               a               penchant               for               jewelry.
               The               Hope               diamond,               this               remnant               of               the               idols               eye,               had               passed               through               the               hands               of               yet               more               owners               by               the               time               it               was               purchased               by               the               famous               jeweler,               Pierre               Cartier,               in               1910.
               Cartier               was               intent               on               moving               this               expensive               item               off               of               his               inventory               so               he               approached               Evalyn               McLean,               who               had               mentioned               seeing               the               gem               gracing               the               throat               of               the               Sultans               wife               to               her               jeweler               P.

Cartier.
               Pierre               Cartier,               master               salesman,               opened               with               the               dramatic               news               of               the               death               of               that               beautiful               lady               during               the               'Turkish               Rebellion'               and               continued               on               with               stories               of               the               mysterious               Eye               of               the               idol               of               the               goddess               Sita               and               the               curse               of               misery               and               death               that               followed               it               over               the               centuries.
               Not               the               usual               sales               pitch,               but               Cartier               new               that               Mrs.

McLean               boasted               of               getting               good               luck               from               things               that               brought               bad               luck               to               others.

Cartier               had               a               new               setting               made               for               the               gem               and               the               deal               was               finalized               in               1911,               starting               the               public               life               of               the               Hope               diamond.
               From               Idol               Eye               to               Public               Eye
               The               Hope               diamond               toured               the               social               scene               of               Washington,               D.C.

for               the               next               36               years               around               the               neck               of               Evalyn               McLean.

The               Washington               Post               columnist               Sarah               Booth               Conroy               pointed               out               that               Evalyn               wore               the               diamond               everywhere,               each               becoming               so               associated               with               the               other               that               the               gem               became               part               of               the               theme               for               her               personal               show,               as               Mrs.

McLean               clearly               states               in               her               autobiography;
               "It's               only               when               the               thing               I               buy               creates               a               show               for               those               around               me               that               I               get               my               money's               worth."
               The               Hope               diamond               continued               its               public               life               after               Mrs.

McLean               passed               on               when               it               was               once               again               sold               to               clear               up               personal               debt.

Harry               Winston,               Inc.

took               this               fabled               gem               on               the               road,               for               the               next               ten               years,               as               the               crowning               addition               to               their               'Court               of               Jewels'               exhibit.
               It               was               during               this               period               that               the               final               cutting               of               this               historic               blue               diamond               took               place               when               the               bottom               facet               was               adjusted               to               increase               the               brilliance               of               the               gem.
               It               was               November               10,               1958               that               Harry               Winston               donated               the               Hope               diamond               to               the               American               public               by               sending               it               in               a               plain               brown               wrapper               by               U.S.

Mail               to               the               Smithsonian               Institute               where               it               became               specimen               #217868.
               To               celebrate               its               50th               anniversary               at               the               Smithsonian's               National               Museum               of               Natural               History               the               Hope               diamond               will               be               on               display               in               all               its               glory               and               without               a               setting.

The               Harry               Winston               jewelry               firm               is               creating               a               new               setting               for               the               Hope               diamond               which               they               call               "Embracing               Hope"               and               when               ready               the               two               will               become               part               of               the               exhibit.

               And               what               of               the               'Curse'?

When               tragedy               in               her               life               was               pointed               to               as               an               example               of               the               legendary               curse               Evalyn               McLean               replied,
               "What               tragedies               have               befallen               me               might               have               occurred               had               I               never               seen               or               touched               the               Hope               Diamond.

My               observations               have               persuaded               me               that               tragedies,               for               anyone               who               lives,               are               not               escapable."
               If               anyone               knew               the               answer               to               the               curse,               it               would               be               the               woman               who               adorned               herself               for               so               many               years               with               the               Eye               of               the               Idol,               the               Hope               diamond.

                   My               favorite               tree               and               flower               share,               coincidentally               enough,               the               same               name.

    The               more               than               majestic               magnolia               is               the               single               greatest               tree               in               the               world               for               climbing.

    The               fragrance               of               the               fruit               of               the               magnolia               tree--by               which               I               mean               the               flower--is               the               kind               of               sweetness               that               poets               spin               words               into               meaningless               rhymes               over.

    If               you               want               to               fulfill               the               challenge               of               planting               a               tree               that               your               kids               will               love               when               they               are               kids               that               also               produces               a               flower               that               their               spouse               will               enjoy               as               a               gift               on               their               50th               wedding               anniversary,               then               the               magnolia               is               really               the               only               choice               that               makes               even               the               slightest               bit               of               sense.

    And               here               are               three               tips               to               make               that               multi-decade               process               go               easier.
                   30               Feet               Rule
                   The               30               feet               rule               applies               to               magnolias               during               the               planting               stage.

    If               you               want               your               magnolia               to               achieve               primacy               as               the               greatest               plant               in               the               yard,               then               above               all               else               you               must               put               into               action               the               30               feet               rule.

    The               majesty               of               the               magnolia               is               a               bit               hard               to               contemplate               when               the               youngling               is               not               even               as               tall               as               the               eaves               of               your               house.

    Picture               in               your               mind               the               day               several               years               hence               when               the               magnolia               towers               over               the               house               in               such               a               way               that               even               the               hottest               day               of               August               feels               more               like               the               fifth               hottest               day               of               May.

    The               slow               development               upward               and               outward               of               the               magnolia               requires               that               sapling               planting               be               carefully               measured               off               30               feet               from               any               obstacle               that               could               interfere               with               its               achieving               full               magnificence.

    Plant               your               magnolia               30               feet               from               your               house,               30               feet               from               any               nearby               three               and,               needless               to               say,               30               feet               from               a               power               line.
                   Soak               up               the               Sun
                   Magnolias               are               found               in               abundance               in               the               South.

    Mississippi               is               actually               known               not               as               the               Jim               Crow               State,               but               the               Magnolia               State.

    While               that               may               have               been               merely               a               paperwork               mistake,               the               fact               remains               that               Dixie               is               home               to               the               best               that               magnolia               trees               have               to               offer.

    The               reason               for               this               is               exposure               to               the               sun.

    Yeah,               sure,               you               can               grow               magnolias               in               the               shade               of               nearby               trees               or               a               towering               building               next               door               and               that               tree               will               be               as               perfect               for               climbing               as               any               magnolia               that               grows               with               the               sunshine               remaining               unimpeded.

    But               magnolia               trees               that               don't               enjoy               exposure               to               the               sun's               rays               will               produce               fewer               blossoms.

    And               since               the               enticing               aroma               of               the               white               flower               of               the               magnolia               is               such               an               enormous               part               of               the               tree's               appeal,               why               would               you               want               to               make               that               choice               unless               you               were               absolutely               forced               to.

    If               you               want               to               make               sure               that               your               magnolia               reaches               the               full               fruition               of               its               powerful               appeal,               make               sure               to               plant               it               where               the               sun               shines               heaviest.
                   Transplant
    Magnolia               trees               are               such               incredible               works               of               art               that               you               one               day               find               yourself               tearing               up               at               the               very               idea               of               having               to               move               and               leave               your               tree               behind.

    It               would               be               ridiculous               to               try               to               transplant               a               full               grown               magnolia               unless               you               have               some               serious               money               behind               you               and               even               then               it               would               seem               unreasonable               since               you               could               always               buy               new               ones.

    While               your               magnolia               tree               is               still               fairly               young               and               manageable,               however,               there               is               little               to               no               reason               not               to               take               it               with               you.

    Or               even               just               to               move               it               to               another               part               of               the               yard.

    As               long               as               you               take               care               not               to               enact               unnecessary               trauma               upon               the               roots               and               engage               in               the               process               of               transplanting               the               tree               when               its               roots               are               experiencing               growth               in               the               spring,               you               should               be               able               to               successfully               move               the               magnolia               without               undo               harm.

    March               and               April               are               the               ideal               months               for               transplanting               a               magnolia.

    Any               other               time               and               you               run               the               risk               of               killing               this               magnificent               specimen.

    I               mostly               love               to               watch               the               British               science               fiction               show               Doctor               Who.

    I               cannot               assert               that               I               am               an               uberfan               who               has               seen               every               episode               countless               times.

    I               have               watched               off               and               on               for               over               twenty               years,               especially               since               the               rebirth               of               the               program               in               2005.

    Doctor               Who               is               a               typical               British               science               fiction               show               in               that               the               show               always               seems               to               be               based               around               England,               even               if               they               travel               to               other               worlds,               with               the               companions               of               The               Doctor               being               mostly               British.

    The               time               traveling               Doctor               is               almost               always               accompanied               by               companions,               humans               typically,               that               help               in               his               many               adventures.

    I               have               read               several               of               the               Doctor               Who               novels               that               have               been               released,               especially               since               the               2005               rebirth,               but               only               recently               have               I               discovered               a               line               of               comics               by               IDW,               an               American               comic               book               publishing               company               founded               in               1999.

    The               company               produces               Doctor               Who               comics               and               other               comics               based               on               television               programs               like               Star               Trek,               Angel,               CSI,               Transformers,               G.I.

    Joe,               and               24.

    The               series               of               comics               is               called               "Doctor               Who-The               Forgotten"               and               is               a               six-issue               mini-series               that               claims               to               include               all               ten               of               The               Doctor's               incarnations.

    This               was               enough               to               intrigue               me.

    The               series               was               written               by               British               writer               Tony               Lee               with               art               work               provided               for               most               of               the               series               by               Canadian               comic               book               artist               Pia               Guerra,               although               Stefano               Martino               provided               artwork               for               issue               3.
                   Issue               one               was               entitled               "Part               1-Amputation"               and               has               our               familiar               Doctor               (the               10th               incarnation               of               the               Time               Lord               played               by               David               Tennant)               and               his               companion               Martha               Jones               (played               on               screen               by               Freema               Agyeman)               in               a               strange               museum.

    Walking               through               the               museum               they               both               discover               it               is               a               Museum               that               focuses               not               only               on               Time               Lords               from               the               planet               Gallifrey               but               specifically               The               Doctor.

    The               Doctor's               memory               is               failing               him               and               Martha               finds               a               cane               that               once               belonged               to               his               1st               incarnation               (played               on               television               by               William               Hartnell).

    The               Doctor               remembers               an               adventure               with               his               granddaughter               Susan               Foreman               (Carol               Ann               Ford)               and               the               two               teachers               from               that               first               season               Ian               Chesterton               (William               Russell)               and               Barbara               Wright               (Jacqueline               Hill)               in               the               26th               Century               B.C.

    and               Menkaure's               Pyramid               in               Egypt.

    We               get               to               see               the               force               behind               The               Doctor's               imprisonment               in               this               museum               and               his               memory               loss,               a               bearded               man               in               the               shadows,               possibly               The               Master               (as               portrayed               by               Anthony               Ainley).
                   Issue               two,               "Part               2-Renewal",               finds               The               Doctor               losing               more               and               more               of               his               memory,               while               Martha               tries               to               find               objects               to               help               jog               is               memory.

    The               recorder               he               used               as               his               2nd               incarnation               (Patrick               Troughton)               brings               back               memories               of               battles               against               an               Alvarian               Space               Wyrm               with               Jamie               McCrimmon               (Frazer               Hines)               and               Zoe               Heriot               (Wendy               Padbury).

    The               keys               to               Bessie,               the               yellow               roadster               he               drove               during               his               3rd               incarnation               (Jon               Pertwee),               bring               back               memories               of               fighting               giant               robotic               spiders               with               companions               Jo               Grant               (Katy               Manning)               and               The               Brigadier,               Brigadier               Alistair               Gordon               Lethbridge-Stewart               (Nicholas               Courtney).

    During               the               reminiscence               in               the               museum,               The               Doctor               and               Martha               are               attacked               by               an               Auton,               a               mindless               automated               being.
                   Issue               three,               "Part               3-Misdirection",               has               Martha               giving               The               Doctor               a               bag               of               jelly               babies,               a               popular               British               confectionary,               which               prompts               The               Doctor               to               remember               an               encounter               in               his               4th               incarnation               (Tom               Baker)               when               he               and               Romana               (Lalla               Ward),               a               female               Time               Lord,               traveled               to               Paris               again               and               met               Taureau               the               Minotaur               in               the               sewers               beneath               Paris.

    A               cricket               ball               reminds               The               Doctor               of               an               adventure               with               Turlough               (Mark               Strickson)               and               Tegan               (Janet               Fielding)               meeting               the               Judoon,               a               humanoid               police               race               very               similar               to               in               appearance               to               the               rhinoceros.

    This               appearance               was               the               best,               so               far,               in               the               series.

    The               Judoon               first               appeared               in               the               opening               third               season               episode               "Smith               and               Jones",               in               which               The               Doctor               meets               Martha               Jones               for               the               first               time.

    These               were               not               classic               Doctor               Who               series               aliens               and               to               have               a               previous               incarnation               meet               and               have               had               experience               with               them               was               fantastic.

    We               know               from               The               Doctor's               reaction               in               that               third               season               episode               that               he               was               familiar               with               The               Judoon,               but               this               little               scene               shows               us               how               he               felt               and               dealt               with               them               then.
                   I               will               not               continue               to               give               you               information               on               the               rest               of               this               series.

    I               urge               you               to               seek               out               the               issues               and               read               them.

    They               are               delightful.

    I               will               give               you               a               few               spoiler               glimpses               into               the               end               of               the               series,               but               beware,               everything               is               not               what               it               seems.

    The               first               part               is               that               Martha               Jones               is               not               really               Martha               Jones.

    And               the               shadowy               figure               behind               all               this               evil               is               not               The               Master.

    You               will               be               surprised,               very               surprised,               by               who               the               shadowy               figure               is.

    It               is               not               a               character               from               the               Classic               Series               but               a               character               from               Season               4               of               the               current               show.
